Matt Parish is man to revive Salford Reds

Head coach Mat Parish is faced with a major task in restoring the Reds’ ailing fortunes

Matt Parish can make Salford sing according to knowledgeable sources close to Reds' new Aussie boss back in Sydney.

The early signs are encouraging but Parish needs to tweak the chorus line and draft in some new star soloists.

Most importantly, everyone under his rule must be singing from the same hymn sheet.

Has Parish gone from State of Origin to a state of concern?

Because, if he wasn't fully aware of the size of the job facing him at Salford, he surely will be by now in the wake of Friday’s 30-22 loss to Leeds.

He does however possess the stomach for a fight.

Stature

His honesty and determination has quickly impressed fans but to outsiders looking in, Parish appears to be trying to fill a bucket which just won't stop leaking.

That is reflected by the limitations of certain experienced players whose best days could be behind them.

The pedigree and stature of these guys can’t be questioned but there's only so much the human body can take.

The word ‘busted’ has often been heard in recent weeks within the corridors of power at The Willows and we’re not talking pontoon!

Weekend reports centred on one high-profile signing of whom big things were expected again but who allegedly struggled to tackle his weight never mind the opposition.

Alex Murphy has already said Parish hasn't brought a magic wand with him from Australia.

Neither does Parish have a platoon of talented youngsters at his disposal.

That is one key area where Reds must drastically improve.

To his credit, Parish is committed to that. He's been working round the clock, sending out players who could come in to bolster his squad.

If Parish is as Salford say the best man for the job - then he must be allowed to do things the way he wants.

As head coach, his head is on the chopping block and he has a fine chairman in John Wilkinson to rely on.

Reds’ shoddy display against Leeds left Parish seething.

On top of an already sizeable challenge and recruitment drive, that was  the last spanner he needed throwing into the works.

Fresh from State of Origin - the pinnacle of rugby league excellence - Parish has vowed to give nothing less than 100 per cent to the task ahead.

For that to happen though, everyone at the club needs to have total faith in Parish.

Meanwhile, Australian centre Mark Henry is expected to find out later this week what the future holds for him.

Henry is out of contract at the end of the season.

What do you think? have your say.

It's obvious that Parish has a king size job ahead of him. Plus the league is doing nothing about the flagrant stealing of what young talent they have by the more successful clubs. How can you have a successful league when the bottom feeders lose good players to the top teams? It has to stop! The sooner the league does something to thwart this practice the sooner we will have parity within the SL.Torred

I agree with you all. It is a Win All - Lose All situation for Mr Parish. He must be given absolute authority to do things his way. He gets it right and we go places or he gets it wrong and we come to terms with the fact that Salford simply exist to make up the numbers.

If MP is given the tools and workbench, he can get on with the job of finally revitalising the years of playing issues at the club. Time and patience.
