Doncaster 0 Widnes Vikings 56

THE Vikings stayed in the box-seat to secure a second place finish with a stunning 10-try success in Belle Vue's final rugby league game.

The home side, set to move to the new Lakeside Stadium next season, were swept away by a Vikings' side inspired by Mark Smith and Ian Watson.

Smith capped another fine display with a hat-trick while Watson gave perhaps his most influential display since moving from Swinton.

Just as important for coach Steve McCormack ahead of the play-offs was the Vikings' superb defence with the players working superbly as a unit to keep out Doncaster.

An early Oliver Wilkes try set up the Vikings for a 34-0 interval lead as they took advantage of the strong wind in their favour. Mick Nanyn collected 20 points from a try and eight goals.
