OLDHAM suffered a record 16th successive defeat as they went down to a double reverse at play-off chasing Batley.

It is their worst sequence since Oldham lost 15 games in a row during the war-time season of 1942-43.

Oldham coach Steve Deakin is already planning for next season and chairman Chris Hamilton, who has only four players signed up for next year, is currently discussing contracts with players and compiling a wanted list.

Oldham again competed well in the early stages, levelling the scores at 6-6 through Dean Gorton's converted try, but they could not maintain the effort.
