Radlinski set for shock comeback

KRIS Radlinski has shocked the rugby league world by coming out of retirement to try to save Wigan Warriors from the ignominy of relegation from Super League.

The former Great Britain full-back was forced to give up the game earlier this season because of a long-standing knee injury, having not played since the previous September, and the side have massively struggled without his calming influence and undoubted star quality.

At the time he explained his tough decision by admitting he had "put my body through enough", but Wigan`s desperate plight - they lie six points adrift at the bottom of the table with just 12 games remaining - has caused a major rethink.

Radlinski told the Wigan Evening Post: "I have been talking to coach Brian Noble and chairman Maurice Lindsay about this for a couple of weeks now, and last night decided to do it.

"Basically I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something bad happened to Wigan after all the club has given me and done for me in the past. I have been watching all the games and I have seen them struggle.

"I think they need a bit of confidence and some more experience, and hopefully I will be able to give the side a bit more of both."

What do you make of the decision? Have your say.

An amazing gesture by one of the games true greats, but surely also more than touch foolhardy.

Accountability for the club's current stance doesn't rest with Kris Radlinski and I just hope that he doesn't end up paying a price of mobility in later life.

I believe that wigan have lacked leadership on the field and the presence of Chris Radlinski alone will give them momentum to stay in super league. Brian Noble needs to be brave and give the captaincy to Chris. Nobby has nothing to lose by this move

Radlinski has been one of the best full backs the game has ever produced. I hope he has taken the very best medical advice here. He was one of the best defensive tacklers as well as a great finisher, and even now will put most of the current Wigan team to shame.

A really brave decison by 'radders a truly great RL player !

He will probably put an extra few thousand on the gate, if he is in the Wigan squad this Sunday.
