Huddersfield 32 Salford City Reds 18

PHONE lines between Salford and the RFL's Leeds HQ will be red-hot today as Salford boss Karl Harrison vents his anger at referee Ashley Klein's handling of this Super League clash.

Klein caned Reds in the first half as Huddersfield led 24-6, and Harrison will be fully justified demanding answers from referees' boss Stuart Cummins.

Salford's plans had already been disrupted by a flu bug in the camp and Harrison climbed out of his sick bed to take charge.

"We were not good enough on the day but we were not allowed to build any kind of pressure. I was not happy with the performance of the officials in the first half," he said.

Reds never got out of first gear and will have to buck up for their Cup clash with Wigan on Friday.

Shadow

Harrison knows Reds have got to start winning these games but they self-destructed, spilled a lot of ball and could not handle the powerful Giants' pack.

Huddersfield were on a high after beating Saints last week and Brad Drew, labelled a world-class player by Reds' football director Steve Simms, soon seized the initiative by grabbing the opening try after Andrew Dunemann's kick was charged down.

Luke Robinson scored Salford's first try from their first serious attack but the Giants added two more tries and there was no way back.

Aaron Moule reduced the deficit with an early second half try and Stephen Myler, who came on for Dunemann, scored a late consolation, but Reds were never at their best and skipper Mal Alker ended up in the sin-bin following a punch-up with Wayne McDonald.

Salford were punished by referee Klein in the first half and were never able to build any momentum as the breaks went Huddersfield's way and the tries came about - in some cases due to self-enforced Salford errors.

Hopefully someday Karl Harrison might stop blaming the referee for evey Salford defeat and put some accountability where it truly lies - with him and the Salford players.

No excuses!
