Prescott injury blow

WIGAN have received another injury setback with news promising prop forward Paul Prescott could be out for the season with a potentially career-threatening eye injury.

The 20-year-old Prescott, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, was on Tuesday undergoing emergency surgery on a detached retina after being hurt in Sunday's 32-22 Challenge Cup win at Wakefield.

"This is a massive blow to the player and the club," said coach Ian Millward. "It is a very serious injury and Paul will have an emergency operation straight away.

"I really feel for the kid. He has really worked hard to get back to fitness and now he has suffered this huge setback."

Wigan have already lost more than half their pack, with Iafeta Palea'aesina, Scott Logan, Gareth Hock and Harrison Hansen on the casualty list.

Bryan Fletcher is also facing the threat of suspension when he appears before the Rugby League's disciplinary committee this evening charged with striking.
