Salford announced triple swoop

SALFORD City Reds have signed a trio of players from relegated Super League club Widnes Vikings.

Goalkicking stand-off Stephen Myler, 21, who had been linked with a move to rugby union, has joined the Reds on a 12-month deal, while Australian centre Aaron Moule, 27, has signed a two-year contract and loose forward Simon Finnigan, 23, has penned a three-year deal.

All three became free agents once Widnes' relegation from Super League was confirmed earlier this week.

"There's a lot of experience there but they are all still quite young," said Salford football director Steve Simms.

"They have played a lot of Super League and they fit into our plans.

"Stephen Myler had a few offers but he feels he has something to offer rugby league still. That's his sport. He wants a new start with a progressive club and he feels we can offer him that."

The trio join Salford's other recruit for 2006, Leigh threequarter John Wilshere, while the Reds are also hoping to secure the capture of Leeds' utility player Andrew Dunemann, who has given them first option if he decides to prolong his Super League career.

The Reds have parted company with Cliff Beverley, Mark Shipway, Nathan McAvoy, Simon Baldwin, Andy Johnson, Stuart Dickens, Neil Baynes and Andy Smith.

Typical Salford tactics - a club whose transfer market strategy has long been based on causing damage to other clubs first and strengthening their own team only as a byproduct. They've been doing it for years. The players they've signed will not improve Salfords squad hardly one iota.

To 'so called' RL fan in Manchester.

How on earth do you come to the conclusion that Salford only profit from transfer dealings by wrecking other clubds positions..???
The Reds have signed players that have been released from their previous employers due to the fact they no longer participate in Super League. Surely any player worth his salt wants to continue playing at the highest level...??? Salford have just offered them that opportunity.

Can't you see the comparisons with players whose clubs have been relegated in Football's Premier League...???

If Salford were ever to be relagated, then most supporters would expect the same to happen to their (our) club.

I don't agree that any signings we make don't improve the team. After all, why would we sign them in the first place..?? Are you saying that both Karl Harrison and Steve Simms are cluless when it comes to shaping a suad to compete at the highest level...???

Personally, I couldn't care less where my team gets their players from so long as it improves the squad as a whole.
