Salford Reds boost as Stephen Wild set for return

Stephen Wild during the close season
Salford Reds’ former GB forward Stephen Wild has made a successful recovery from a hand operation and will be fit for the start of the season.

Wild is back in full training after a pin in his hand and wrist joint came loose towards the end of last season.

Wild played through the pain barrier and it was decided he would need further surgery.

Head coach Phil Veivers said: “The operation has gone well. Stephen is in full training, looking good and is a key member of the squad.

“He’s one of our leaders, very experienced and everything should now be fine.”

Reds take a first look at their new stadium home in Barton today.

Players will have time off over Christmas, having spent a week undergoing fitness training, including a gruelling conditioning run at Wigan’s Haigh Hall.

Young first team stars Mark Sneyd and Gareth Owen will play in the junior match at the stadium next week that is needed for the venue to gain its safety certificate.
