The Australian, who was the club's assistant coach, succeeds Matt Parish who sensationally resigned last week.
Veivers (47), previously coached neighbours Swinton and takes charge with immediate effect after agreeing an initial one-year deal.
"I wanted this job last season and was disappointed when I missed out," said Veivers, who will now lead the side in their first season at the new stadium in Barton.
"I'm flattered to have been offered the role and I'm honoured. I'm excited and I want to do well." Tweet

What no Antipodean jaunts, surely they aren't afraid of upsetting the supporters. Is this the same management that didn't have any faith in his ability 12 months ago.?
Club members really should have some sort of a voice, get behind the coach but insist on accountability from the management. Get rid of the dead wood.
shown loyaltly to the team, stayed when overlooked last year.
The players speak highly of him, i think when he's been in charge of us in the past he's done pretty well. He deserves this chance to give it a crack properly.
Good luck to him.
Come on Salford, lets show what we can do next season.
how long will it be before simms has is way and starts interfearing with team selection again as i said before it does not matter who salford get as head coach they will not be allowed to do there job properly while that idiot is still there they should have got rid of him ages ago is he trying to do to salford what he did at halifax is that not why they got rid of him lets hope the board butt out this time and let the head coach coach and let them get on with getting the decent players we should be getting and leave the coaching side to the coaching staff or are they trying to make us out as the laughing stock of superleagu
I not shocked by this appointment, but it makes the club look rather foolish after a 2 week 'jolly boys outing' in the summer?
I wish Phil well and will be there to shout the boys on but .......... well it speak volumes with what has gone on in the last few months with the club!
Let’s see him shopping for some quality players now for some meat on the bones of our squad.
Hopefully we'll get some stability within the club. The players wanted him last time..........you got your wish boys........so let’s see some of the fans wishes met......... some good solid performances on the pitch.
good luck to phil I think he ll need it.If simms and co think he has has the credentials to be a top super league coach why waste all the expense going to australia and bringing over Matt Parish.Hope he is not going to be steve simms yes man.who after several years of under achieving and poor buys on players who were past it or always injured.is still in a job.why not bring in brian noble to replace simms? I feel it will be another long season with a half empty stadium still lets live in hope
Sorry I wont be going anymore a poor choice for me again I would think its so management keep control. For me till Simms goes the club will be a bottom 2 side there seems to be know ambition by a club and fed up with way club is run. I have had a season ticket for years and not watched any decent rugby for years
Thank God we have a coach to start the season at the new stadium. Veivers certainly deserves a chance to show what he can do.Torred
We must become comfortable with our position in Rugby League. We are there to make up the numbers and give the better teams a run for their money. I have a friend who is a Bury FC fan and he marvels at our unrealistic aims. The Shakers will never win the F.A. Cup and we will never finish in the top three..
Won't be going again whilst Simms is there. Anotherr yes man, more of Simms doing the coaching, more of the same pld dross we've had for years with him. Stay away until we get rid of Simms because otherwise nothing will change and we will be out of Suoper League in 3 years time.
