Phil Veivers tipped for Salford Reds job

Assistant coach Phil Veivers is tipped to become the new head coach of the Salford City Reds following Matt Parish’s shock resignation.

Parish has sensationally quit after just six games in charge and returned to Australia stating ‘personal reasons’ for his departure.

Veivers, a fellow Australian was initially considered for the job of succeeding Shaun McRae but Reds opted for Parish after spending two weeks in Sydney on a scouting mission.

Senior players called for Veivers to be given the job but Parish was chosen.

Parish was offered a two- year deal but it seems increasingly unlikely he ever put pen to paper.

He had been in charge for less than six months and won just one of his six Super League games.

He recently returned from Australia to supervise pre-season training alongside Veivers.

Parish’s working relationship with senior club officials, including chairman John Wilkinson, had become increasingly strained.

Shaun Long, the other assistant coach, is said to be “dismayed” by Parish’s resignation but will be expected to fulfil his obligations with the City Reds.

i think it is about time salford realise that as long as simms is there it does not matter which coach u get he will still want to put is oar in is he trying to do to salford what he did at halifax get rid now you only have to look what happen with alker and simms to see what damage he can do so please get rid before he does any more damage make sure he is on the next available plane back to oz

The sad thing here is not Phil but that a considered approach to who might want to apply might be a better bet rather than making him look like the cheap and only alternative! The truth is this could affect the crowd figures which is hardly what SCR's hopes and dreams might want to affect at the moment. Still judging by Scarlett Turkey like team like fans and maybe it's simply time for SCR to take the Crusaders way out and put everyone out of their mysery once and for all- certainly this would make a great number of lives less miserable!!!

Poor clubs like poor people have to mend and make do.

Very blinkered view in engaging yet another Aussie. Has anyone told them it's quite legal to employ a home grown coach even in today's Down Under-obsessed climate?

'Senior players called for Veivers to be given the job but Parish was chosen.'

Is that the same players who lost seventeen games and shipped over eight hundred points?

What about Hanley or Harris. Good British coaches rather than getting second rate Aussies. First step needs to be to get Simms out. What does he do? Salford have continually failed on and off the pitch. In any other line of buiness he would be sacked for poor performance. Get him out and let Salford move forward.
