Jones joins Centurions

LEIGH Centurions boss Darren Abram has signed former England `A', Orrell and Rotherham rugby union stand-off Phil Jones, who had a spell with Wigan Warriors and Lancashire Lynx prior to switching codes.

Jones is expected to feature for the table-topping Centurions away to Yorkshire strugglers Halifax on Sunday.

"Phil can do a job for us on two fronts. He is a very good stand off and a good goal kicker," said Abram.

And with co-centre Ben Cooper already ruled out with a broken jaw, it leaves Abram on the brink of recalling Mark McCully and Dave Alstead from their loan spells with Rochdale Hornets.

"We don't know what's happening yet," admitted Hornets chairman Ray Taylor.

"Darren contacted Bobbie Goulding and suggested he may have to withdraw their loan spells because of injuries to his Leigh squad.

"So now we will just have to wait and see."
