Although the Knowsley Road pitch had thawed, paths approaching the ground and the club's car park were deemed too dangerous for spectators.
St Helens ground safety officer Bob Singleton said: "Even though there has been a significant thaw, the roads leading to the ground and pathways are still covered in ice and therefore aren't safe.
"The car park is particularly hazardous and, therefore, we had no other option than to call it off.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to both sets of fans."
Salford's pre-season friendly at Leigh also fell victim to the snow and ice. Tweet
