His landmark score was, however, eclipsed by Keighley's Danny Jones, who kept up his record of scoring in every game this season.
Having trailed 28-12 with 10 minutes left, the Roughyeds scored three late tries to ensure the game was never a foregone conclusion.
Video referee Ben Thaler was called into action twice in the first half, ruling that Oldham skipper Tommy Goulden had lost the ball when touching down, much to his annoyance. He then ruled in favour of Cougars' Sam Gardner despite him appearing to drop the ball.
Even so, the Roughyeds took the lead with half-time approaching when Luke Menzies ran on to Martin Roden's pass to score, Chris Baines added the goal.
With Oldham leading 6-4 at half-time, Danny Jones crossed twice and kicked both conversions to give Keighley a 10-point cushion early in the second period.
Neil Roden's landmark score and Baines' goal took Oldham to within four points, but two tries from Jon Presley and Oliver Pursglove helped the Cougars build what seemed a decisive advantage.
But Oldham battled back with tries from Marcus St Hilare, Menzies and Wayne Kerr. Unfortunately Baines managed only one goal.
What is your verdict on the action? Have your say.

I fear for the future of Oldham without doubt losing in yesterdays final will be a big blow to there future.
Good Luck Mr Hamilton here's hoping you have a magic wand.
Ownership and boardroom need sorting out quickley if the Roughyeds are able to sign players who will make the club competitive next season. There is still a great deal of pride in the club as was shown at the end of the season, especially in light of earlier disruptions which could have floored thecclub.Let's hope that 2010 will see the Roughyeds play in the same vein as in the last month.
such a valiant effort by the roughyeds, however sadly it wasn't to be. Good luck next season, lets make it forth time lucky eh? Lets also back the lads by attending and showing them the support they deserve! Mr Malcolm Cowen Oldham
