NEW Aussie recruit Kevin McGuinness will go straight into the side for Salford's vital home clash with London on Saturday.

Football director Steve Simms says: "Kevin's arrival is a massive boost - he is a quality signing.

"We were obviously very disappointed with the heavy defeat at Hull but you have to get this kind of thing out of the system quickly.

"We were very disappointed but you cannot dwell on things and a big effort is now needed this weekend.

"We did not compete against Hull but we are still struggling from having to play three games in just eight days - we then go and lose our captain Mal Alker.

"We have to bounce back and show true character."

Coach Karl Harrison said after the Hull defeat: "I am lost for words and totally embarrassed - this is not what Karl Harrison is about and not what the team I am associated with is about - I have never been in this situation before."

Reds performance was met by an angry response from fans.

Danny Gray, media spokesman for the Forever Reds independent supporters group said: "I just hope the lads can put the whole performance behind them.

"We were told the team would not be out enthused - they were at Hull.

"I didn't fancy us to win but I wasn't expecting such a heavy defeat.

"We're giving teams too much respect but I know the players are better players than the way they're currently playing.

"We have to win our next two games if we are to survive in Super League."

Meanwhile Salford are set to complete the signing of Nathan McAvoy, who will rejoin them from union club Saracens.

McAvoy and his agent were today due to meet Reds officials to complete the deal.

  • Warrington hope to have John Wilshere, Graham Appo, and Chris Leikvoll back from injury in three weeks.

Daryl Cardiss is the big doubt for Friday's clash with Leeds after picking up an ankle injury.

  • Swinton have taken St Helens youngster Alan Kilshaw on loan for a month - Michael Coates should be back next week following a shoulder injury and will remain on loan for the full season.
