Hull KR 40 Warrington 16

AUSTRALIAN forward Clint Newton scored a hat-trick of tries as Hull KR strengthened their hold on third place in engage Super League and gained a touch of revenge for their extra-time Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat by Warrington in May.

The Wolves picked up from where they left off at Wembley a week ago by storming into a 12-6 lead but they could not sustain their challenge and a sixth defeat from their last seven League games has virtually ended their play-off hopes.

Rovers scored four tries without reply in the second and third quarters, two of them spectacular 70-metre counter-attacking efforts, to seize control of the game and second rower Newton capped a fabulous performance with a treble.

Earlier, Warrington's rookie forward Tyrone McCarthy maintained his fairytale start to his professional rugby league career by scoring his first try for the club.
