The Reds boss is certainly sleeping a lot easier at night with the squad having overcome early teething problems readjusting to the pace and intensity of Super League.
And the chairman now believes Shaun McRae's men have found their feet in the top flight and can hold their own.
Wilkinson is certainly relishing the forthcoming Challenge Cup quarter-final clash with Wigan which has revived memories of a famous tie between the two clubs in 1997.
Salford overcame what was considered an invincible Warriors side to record one of the greatest victories in their history - and Wilkinson would dearly love a repeat.
He said: "This was really great win but it was a one-off and circumstances are now very different. Wigan had won 44 cup games on the spin and someone eventually had to beat them. We had the distinction of doing so and we played brilliantly.
"We have improved this season and going to Wigan as underdogs will suit us. It's 80 minutes of rugby and anything can happen. We've nothing to lose and we are extremely positive building up to what should be a fantastic game.
"I really am pleased with how things are shaping up for us. We have some quality players and a very good team, the future is bright. It's particularly pleasing to see so many young talented players coming through and doing so well.
"Earlier this season, I spoke at length with the Castleford coach Terry Matterson and he said it was tough for any club coming back into Super League. We did well in pre-season, we then won our opening game against Celtic Crusaders but defeats followed and we have worked very hard to turn things around.
"When we go to Wigan we know we will have to be at our very best and reproduce the kind of performance we showed in beating Leeds at Headingley.
"That performance proved we have a great spirit within the squad and I have seen what I term a coming together of respect and unity.
"I witnessed it at first hand when we returned home from Batley on Sunday night.
"We called off at a nursing home in Swinton to see a 96-year-old supporter, Mrs Mary Pearce. Every single player and member of the backroom staff went in to have a word with Mary and offer their support.
"This was great, it pleased me so much and it shows just how to together our lads are."
Wilkinson also had special words of prasie for the way the Reds' new recruits have quickly settled in at the club.
"Every member of the squad has played his part for us this season. I don't want to single players out but feel it's fair to say that all our signings have shown up very well," he added.
"Luke Swain is the perfect role model for Luke Adamson in the pack and these two complement each other superbly.
"Adamson is getting stronger and I'd like to think he is a future international.
"All our four props have been superb and in Lee Jewitt I see quality for the future."
"There is a lot to play for and a lot to look forward to."

It was 1996 not 1997 when Salford famously knocked Wigan out of the cup.
Anything can happen in one match between 2 SL opponents. Let's hope for the breaks to fall the Reds way against Wigan. The team seems to be clicking into place and we can look forward to a brighter future. The experienced players are playing to their potential and the younger types are coming into their own. The rest of the season should be interesting.Torred
Last time we were at Wembley was way back in 1969.
I think it's about time we returned to the Capital..
COME ON SALFORD CITY REDS..
Who cares. It was a great win and I remember every try as if it was yesterday. Lets hope for a repeat.
