Australians Ray Cashmere, Luke Swain and Mark Henry along with New Zealander Jeremy Smith have come under fire but Simms insists they will come good.
"Good players simply don't wake up in the morning and become bad ones," he said.
"We are struggling as a team right now and we don't have a magic wand but these players we have brought in will come good, believe me.
"It would be interesting to see how any of them would fair right now if they went in to say the Leeds or St Helens team.
"These fellas have just come half way around the world to play rugby. They need time to adapt to a new climate, a new culture and a new competition. It's a huge wrench but the fans have got to be patient."
SWINTON coach Paul Kidd has praised Graham Holroyd, who made his eagerly-awaited debut in the crushing 66-16 win over London Skolars.
"His kicking was good, so too was his passing and he was always looking to make things happen," he said.
"We have really strong competition for places right now and we look forward to Sunday's game against Keighley."
