The wing ace was glad to be back on familiar ground - chattting with the current first-team squad and reminiscing about the Championship-winning days of the 1970s and was joined by fellow Welshman and legendary Reds' front-rower David Young.
Young, who is now head coach of rugby union side Cardiff Blues, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing rugby league for Salford and it's great to see them back in the Super League.
"It's also good to finally have a team in the competition from Wales, although on the day my loyalties will firmly be with Salford."
The Former British Lion and Welsh RU International was instrumental in the drive to get Andy Gregory's Reds promoted into Super League in 1997 and was a try-scoring captain in the famous Challenge Cup 5th Round win over Wigan that ended the Warriors run of successive Wembley wins before he left to rejoin Cardiff in 1996.
"It would be fantastic to see Salford get a little success this year," he added. "Whenever I see The Willows on television it always brings back good memories especially of that famous afternoon against Wigan in the Cup."
