Why not an annual match betwen England and an Overseas x111? It would be a fine attraction and a good test of the strength of England ,going into the series vs Oz & NZ.jim shelton
Sorry Jim, but what would that serve to prove. It'd be like the world club challenge, Australian sides believe they are vastly superior, the fact is they are. A major shake up is required with solid leadership, but I'm as confident of that not happening as I am in my last statement. 45,000 people have just watched the Broncos in their opening game of the season, that fact alone shows you the difference in competitions. How many 19yr old 18stone centres are playing in Superleague? How many 30 plus players are playing in the NRL? how many players in the NRL are on 3 year contracts? When a player is reaching the end of his career he has absolutely no chance of bettering a one year deal regardless of who he is, Adrian Moreley and Paul Rahihi found that out and then managed to get a 4 year superannuation deal with Warrington. The English game is soft at the top and it follows right down the line. The gaps getting bigger and rather than look at more international competition I would rather be spared the embarrassment. The World Cup debacle convinced me we have little future and are better off cocooned in superleague. If a play off was made mandatory for third place I firmly believe Papua New Guinea
would have beaten us, during the tournament they showed improvement we didn't. Has anyone bothered to ask what the findings were OF the critique that was undertaken after this debacle,? Self regulation is only a means of protecting the body responcible, not much use if what you need is change. The English league is a disgrace, and there is nobody with the guts and foresight to do anything about it.
I think we have a misunderstanding, I meant a match between the overseas players presently playing in UK and the full England squad. That should prove interesting for all RL fans in UK. And it would be a good warm-up for the home team. Jim Shelton
I guess Celtic Crusaders could be the Overseas 13!
In addition to an "overseas xiii " Vs England, another attraction would be National league selects vs France. T his match would be an interesting warmup for the french squad. Also it would give some lesser known stars a chance to show their merits against good opposition. Toulouse or perpignan would be a logical site for such a match. Jim Shelton
