Leigh Centurions 32 Whitehaven 8
THE Centurions signed off rugby league at Hilton Park with three points and cemented their play-off place with an emphatic win over Whitehaven.
Neil Kelly’s side, who leave their base at Hilton Park for a new stadium at Leigh Sports Village, celebrated in style as they ran riot against sorry Whitehaven.
The visitors were completely lack lustre but that didn’t take the gloss of a superb Leigh performance.
And it was former Super League veterans Denis Moran and Toa Kohe-Love who were the main tormentors in chief as they masterminded ‘Haven’s rapid downfall.
They both touched down for four pointers and put in sterling efforts, leading from the front from the first whistle to the last.
Dave Alstead and Adam Higson got Leigh ticking over early on before Love and Moran got in on the act.
Lee Doran rounded up the scoring four minutes from time. ‘Haven’s only points came from Ade Abebisi and Saia Makisi.
Rochdale Hornets 42 London Skolars 12
CARL Syned notched a 12 point haul as Rochdale dished out some capital punishment to London Skolars at Spotland.
Syned kicked four goals and burst over for a well-taken try to continue his excellent form.
The game was over as a contest during the first half as Rocdale racked up the points.
John Muir and Wayne Corcoran got Darren Shaw’s men off to a good start with early scores and when Leroy Rivett and Sam Butterworth crossed the points and the bragging rights were firmly in the bag.
The Skolars were kept scoreless in the opening 40 minutes but they did register some points and pride in the second half as Corey Simms and Austin Aggrey plundered tries. Janan Billings and Martin Ainscough replied for the Hornets with Paul Rolls and Syned having the final say.
Swinton Lions 20 Oldham 38
SWINTON Lions put up a valiant fight against play-off certainties Oldham but didn’t have enough in the tank to cause an upset.
The Lions have been indifferent at home this season but this performance generates some credit for Paul Kidd’s men as they worked tirelessly in the final quarter but just lacked that bit of class at crucial stages as Oldham leaped ahead.
The game was effectively over in the first half as Oldham showed their superiority as Marcus St Hillaire, Ian Hodgson and Luke Menzies gave the visitors a 6-18 lead at the break before Swinton threatened to mount a comeback through Liam McGovern who touched down on 60 minutes.
Paul O’Connor’s try on 71 minutes settled the outcome of the tie but Swinton continued to plug away and were rewarded when Andy Saywell and Chriss Hull went over minutes from time.
Oldham were never in danger of losing the game as Lucas Onyango sprinted in after half-time to deflate the Lions but Kidd’s outfit did show some heart and commitment which has been lacking in certain games this season.
