Salford 46 Leigh 12

SALFORD celebrated their pending elevation to the Super League by putting rivals Leigh in their place at the Willows on Friday night.

Reds turned the screw in the second half last night to round off a momentous and eventful week for the club.

It was one-way traffic after the break as Salford’s superior skill shone through and proved too much for Neil Kelly’s spirited Centurions.

Leigh bagged a couple of tries from Ian Mort and Dave Alstead but the outcome of this one was never in doubt.

Mal Alker, Richard Myler, John Wilshere, Adam Sidllow, Stefan Ratchford and Jordan Turner powered over for second-half tries to increase Reds’ lead at the top of National League One.

The Reds had led 10-4 at the break thanks to tries from Paul White and Matt Gardner.

Mort replied for the Centurions but Salford looked the part and now offer a great opportunity for seasoned players.

With only four games left before the play-offs, several Reds players are hoping to land Super League contracts.

Reds are among a number of clubs who have already been alerted about the possible availability next season of Saints star Paul Sculthorpe.

He could join his brother Danny at Wakefield but would prefer a move closer to his Wigan base if he is to prolong his career.

Sculthorpe claims he still has plenty to offer but potential buyers would be taking a huge gamble bearing his mind his horrendous injury record and his age.

Reds will certainly have to bolster their squad and therefore it was not surprising to see Andrew Clarke in the main stand mingling with players in between checking test messages.

Clarke, one of the game’s most high profile agents, has lost no time this week informing Reds of players within his stable who may be of interest to them in the near future.

What is your verdict on the game? Have your say.

This result adds emphasis to the reasons the Reds were re-admitted to the SL. It will act as a springboard to their elevation to the SL where they belong. It is fitting because it certainly looks as tho the Reds will take the NL title this year ,which would win them promotion to the SL in other years. Torred

The Reds did was was needed last night against a poor Leigh Centurions outfit.

Next up we play Halifax it what will be a cracker for sure.

The games being shown live on SKY SPORTS so at least all the reds fans who cant make the journey can watch it on the box.

I predict a close game and of course a win for the National League 1 table toppers the Salford City Reds.

WE ARE SUPER LEAGUE ** WE ARE SUPER LEAGUE.
