RFL investigate ref pelting

THE Rugby Football League are to investigate reports that referee Ashley Klein was pelted with missiles during the Super League match against Hull at Warrington last Friday.

Police are also looking into crowd trouble that flared both before and after the match at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

A group of men, thought to be from Hull but not wearing Hull colours, charged a queue of spectators waiting to enter the ground and missiles were allegedly thrown during the match.

"We have launched an investigation into incidents that are alleged to have occurred inside the ground," said RFL media spokesman Craig Spence.

SWINTON coach Paul Kidd is tipping Salford City Reds to go through the National League season unbeaten.

The Lions play hosts to their arch rivals in the Northern Rail Cup on Sunday and Kidd said: "Salford have recruited very well and are very strong. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them going through the entire season unbeaten. They are not the only full-time club but they have brought in a lot of quality players and they also have many quality youngsters.

"I feel they have built a side more for the 2009 season and for the planned return to Super League. Robbie Paul will be a massive influence at this level and Karl Fitzpatrick and Mal Alker are very good players."
