IAN Schofield showed just how much he has been missed during his injury troubles as he helped Wigan St Patrick's pull off a cup shock.

Schofield scored a try and kicked seven goals for St Patrick's as they beat Leigh Miners 26-6 in the second round of the Ace Europe Insurance National Cup.

St Patrick's, who led 18-0 at half-time, also saw Steve Simm and Mel Alker score tries. Chris Humphreys grabbed a last-minute consolation try for Miners, which Martin Ridyard goaled.

Carl Sneyd scored two tries and five goals as Waterhead ran out 26-14 winners at Eccles and Salford.

The sides were level at 14-14 after 66 minutes, but then Neil Goulding and Sneyd went in for tries to seal victory, Terry Fitzgerald having claimed an earlier try for Waterhead.

Mike Davies and substitutes Marc Gilligan and Richard Openshaw scored Eccles' tries, with John McAtee kicking a goal.

Rochdale Mayfield had 10 try scorers as they crushed Distington 66-6; Chris Hilton, Paul Rolls and Naumatua getting two each.

Leigh East toppled Hull Isberg 62-12, while last year's runners-up Ince Rose Bridge sprung another major upset by beating Conference champions Skirlaugh 34-18.
