The visitors triumphed 21-18 and withstood a fierce spell of counter-attacking from Hull in the closing stages to set up a meeting with Leeds in Friday's final eliminator.
Second-half tries by Gareth Hock and Liam Colbon proved decisive for Wigan but Gareth Raynor's late try put the result in some doubt.
Noble said: "The nerves were jangling. Full credit to Hull, they came back manfully towards the end but we gave them every opportunity.
"It's a lesson for us to learn and we'll have to be better against Leeds.
"We might even put a decent performance together soon."
But Noble insisted that despite the mistakes the game was a fine spectacle.
"Rugby league is amazing isn't it, that's why the crowds are going up."
Hull coach Peter Sharp was philosophical about his side's efforts.
"I thought we had a great run. It wasn't to be but I'm very proud of the job. From where we were 10-12 weeks ago to where we are now is phenomenal," he said. Tweet
