The Catalans Dragons winger topped the engage Super League scoring charts last term with a total of 25.
That was good enough to earn the former Widnes Vikings trialist as place in the 2006 Dream Team.
However, 2007 has been more of a rude awakening for the softly spoken flyer.
Murphy's appearances this year have been restricted by loss of form and injuries including a serious smash into the advertising hoardings at the JJB Stadium.
"I didn't think too much of it at the time but I ended up with broken ribs and blood in my kidneys," said the Australian.
"The doctors told me it was pretty dangerous so that set me back a few weeks."
Murphy has managed just eight touchdowns this season but tellingly two in last two outings, including a try in the 21-0 defeat of Saints in Perpignan.
"We could have woken the giant with that victory," laughs Murphy.
"But 'nilling' them has certainly given us more confidence and we have to make sure that we use it at Wembley.
Capable
"We know we are capable of beating them. We have just got to show it on the day.
"St Helens are big favourites and deservedly so. They have been the best team for the last two years.
"We have just got to make sure we all stand up and be counted on the day."
Murphy agrees Catalans' giant-killing run to Wembley has boosted the game in France.
"The whole of Perpigan is buzzing at the moment. It's just doing wonders for the game.
"As a squad we spoke a bit about Wembley. But never in our wildest dreams did we think we would actually be playing there."
