JOELTomkins has joined National League One leaders Widnes Vikings on loan from Wigan.

The 20-year-old second rower, who made his Wigan debut against Widnes in 2005, has made 25 appearances for the Warriors but only two this season.

Wigan coach Brian Noble said: "Joel is a fine young prospect who is on the fringe of our first-team squad. He needs to be playing regular and competitive rugby league and a spell with Widnes will help to keep him sharp."

Widnes coach Steve McCormack said: "It's a really good signing for the club. Joel has tremendous ability and experience and will go straight into the 17 for Doncaster on Sunday."
