HORNETS avenged their defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs at Spotland by earning their fifth win in six Northern Rail Cup group games.

"Not many sides will come here and get a win," said Hornets coach Darren Abram.

Chris Giles' 15th-minute try, four Kevin King goals and a Simon Svabic drop-goal saw Hornets in command after they conceded a second-minute try to Chris Langley.

But Jack Watson's converted try with 15 minutes remaining set up a tense finish.

"The competition has set us up for the start of the league campaign," added Abram.
