Leigh Centurions 44 Oldham Roughyeds 12

LEIGH safely grabbed the points from an ill-tempered derby game at the Coliseum, having too much power and class for a hard-working and brave Oldham side.

Leigh forward Tere Glassie, one of three former Oldham players in the home pack, was sent-off for an off-the-ball incident midway through the second half and man of the match Jules O'Neill was also yellow carded with Simon Svabic and Mick Redford in the sin bin for the Roughyeds.

Though O'Neill created an early try for Tommy Grundy, Oldham fought back with a Lee Wingfield score to level the scores. But an Aaron Heremaia try and two further scores by Adam Hughes and Richard Moore put Leigh in control at the break.

Danny Halliwell went over for two tries in the second half for the Centurions with Gary Sykes and Heremaia also crossing.

O'Neill added five goals with Heremaia adding another goal.

Dean Gorton grabbed a second half try for Oldham, with Chris Hough kicking two conversions.
