OLDHAM legend Alan Davies has died, aged 75.

Davies, played 391 times for the Roughyeds during their trophy-winning decade of the 1950s, scoring 174 tries to become their all-time leading try scorer.

He was also an original member of the club's hall of fame, won 20 Great Britain caps and toured Australia with Great Britain in 1958.

Davies later moved on to Wigan and played at Wembley against Wakefield Trinity in the 1963 Challenge Cup final.

Michael Turner, an Oldham RL historian, said: “Alan was one of the greatest centres the game has ever known. Many supporters regarded him as the best player ever to have played for Oldham.

“The fact that he is the most-capped player in the history of the club adds weight to the argument.”
