OLDHAM missed out on a place in the semi-final of the Northern Rail Cup because of a last-gasp effort from Batley centre Andy Jarrett.

Steve Deakin’s men were in the tie for the entire contest but a momentary slip in concentration in the final quarter cost them dearly.

Oldham were trailing by only two points after 60 minutes and were showing signs of dominance before Jarrett forced his way over to take the wind from Oldham’s sails.

Danny Maun had got Batley off to a great start but Lucas Onyango cancelled that out with a try in the corner.

Jamie Stokes and Paul Mennell scored a try each just before the break which dented Oldham’s chances.

The visitors did come back through Phil Joseph and Neil Roden, with Mick Nanyn hitting two goals, but they couldn’t keep the Bulldogs out to the end.
