The buccaneering front-runner continued his winning run in the Racing Post Weekender Pendil Novices’ Chase but was beaten just half a length by Racing Post Chase third Big Fella Thanks in an event at Carrigtwohill, County Cork two years ago.
The chestnut has now has only one loss from six starts in chases under Rules and had his task simplified when two of his rivals - Ouzbeck and Premier Des Marais - endured jumping calamities.
Ruby Walsh allowed 8-13 favourite Herecomesthetruth to make his own mind up at many of the fences and thanks to some clever jumps, they were always holding their sole remaining rival Au Courant.
Findlay explained: “I bought Herecomesthetruth and Paul (Barber) bought Big Fella Thanks and when I brought him back to the yard, as soon as Paul saw him he said ’I want half of this horse and you can have half of Big Fella Thanks’
“It’s amazing to see both horses running back here today.
“Ruby was keener on sticking to the new novice chase at Aintree, but this is a Battle Of Britain horse - he wins it in the air - and I’d find a cut at the big fences in the Topham Chase hard to resist.” Tweet
