Hold Em can make excellent use of his feather weight to land Saturday’s Racing Post Chase at Kempton.

Keith Goldsworthy’s charge has just scraped into the final field for the Grade Three handicap and will have a further 5lb removed from his 10st 1lb burden by virtue of able rider Rhys Flint’s claim.

Admittedly it is a tough ask for the novice against more seasoned rivals but he has been showing up well in some decent events this season and could have been underestimated.

The seven-year-old was a fair hurdler last term but made a successful bow over the bigger obstacles at Huntingdon last November.

He then followed home Breedsbreeze in Grade Two company before again coming up short behind Gone To Lunch at the same level on his next outing.

Hold Em’s third in the Feltham also reads well but his first step into handicap company at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day was not as successful as his jumping let him down a little in finishing third.

He kept on gamely though and it may be that Goldsworthy had just gone to the well once too often at that point.

Hold Em has been given a rest since that run though and his trainer is confident of a bold show, a fact which also augers well.
