Weekend tips

Trainer Paul Nicholls

STAND by for a flood of money for Granit Jack at Cheltenham on Saturday after the Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old squeezed in at the bottom of the Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase field.

But this ex-French horse is untried over fences in this country and his lack of experience may let in L’Antartique (2/35) , who beat Bob Hall at the Festival meeting here in March.

Franchoek (2.00), a winner over two miles on the Flat, stuttered a bit when third on his hurdling debut at Market Rasen but left that form behind at Chepstow next time and can beat off some red-hot rivals in the Cleanevent Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle.

Stablemate Blazing Bailey (3.10) has to give lumps of weight away to his rivals in the Lombard Properties Handicap Hurdle but is a class act and one of the bankers of the day.

L’Ami (3.40) was entered for the Paddy Power as well as the Servo Computer Services Trophy Chase, where he shoulders top weight  over a more suitable distance of three miles, three and a half furlongs.

He didn’t run all that badly when 10th to Silver Birch in the Grand National last April and trainer Francois Doumen hasn’t lost faith in this one-time Gold Cup contender (fourth in 2006). Give him one more chance.

Who are you tipping for this weekend's action? Have your say.
