Former Sale Harriers Allyn Condon and Daniel Money have swapped their running spikes for ice spikes and are now in GB's four-man bobsleigh team which will take on the world's best in Vancouver later this month.
Condon, who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and also won sprint relay gold in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, is now in Salt Lake City with Money preparing for the Games.
"It is a fantastic privilege for me to be selected for an Olympic Winter Games," said Runcorn-based Condon, who took up bobsleigh after watching the hit film Cool Runnings which told the story of four Jamaican sprinters who turned their hand to the sport and reached the Olympics.
"There's nothing bigger than the Olympics - it's the highest achievement in sport. The main criteria for bobsleigh are speed and strength so it's a natural progression for athletes. By 2005 I was fed-up with athletics. I wasn't motivated any more and then someone contacted me about bobsleigh."
Money, from Glossop, failed to qualify for the summer Olympics despite having a personal best of 10.16secs in the 100m.
"He never got selected for the summer Games so he's made up to be picked for Vancouver," said Money's proud dad David.
Also in Canada will be Sheffield-based former Trafford AC athlete Nicola Minichiello, who is in the women's two-man bob.
