MANCHESTER'S second ice age officially got underway last night when the region's new ice hockey team was introduced to the fans.

Following the demise of Manchester Storm a new club has been resurrected by a fans' co-operative and will play at the Manchester Evening News Arena in the Elite League.

The Manchester Phoenix will play its first pre-season game tonight against an English League select side at Deeside Leisure Centre and the season faces off the weekend after next with the first home game against London Racers at the MEN Arena on Sunday, September 14.
