PHOENIX defender Luke Boothroyd is not satisfied with just reaching the Challenge Cup final.

The 21-year-old joined from Hull last summer in search of silverware and believes that Phoenix can go all the way in both the Challenge and Knock-out cups as well as the end-of-season play-offs.

Phoenix beat Basingstoke Bison on Sunday to earn themselves a Challenge Cup final showdown with Belfast Giants and defenceman Boothroyd said: "We're in the final of the Challenge Cup which is great, but now we've got to go on and win it.

"We want to make it three finals out of three by reaching the Knock-out Cup and play-off finals as well."

Despite his tender years, Boothroyd has established himself as a key member of the Phoenix backline following the retirement of Dwight Parrish, and is thriving in his new role.

"When Dwight left, I had a meeting with Tony Hand who told me that he wasn't going to bring in a replacement and that I was going to be playing more," said the Phoenix number four.

"This added responsibility is good and playing regularly is helping me to develop."

Phoenix's hectic schedule takes them to Belfast this evening for a league fixture against their Challenge Cup final opponents before they visit Newcastle tomorrow for the first leg of the Knock-out Cup semi-final.

"They're both tough matches, but the Newcastle game is our main focus because it's another important semi- final," said the former Stingrays man.

However, tonight's match in Belfast is also significant as it gives Phoenix the opportunity to both lay down a marker ahead of the Challenge Cup final and collect points in the race to qualify for the play-offs.

"The game against Belfast is a chance for us to send out a message before the final but the league is still very important to us too. We'll be treating it like any other game and we're going there for the win," said Boothroyd.
