VICTORY was definitely a sweet one over in Sheffield last week.

Not just because they are a team I have a bit of history with but because of the way our guys performed.

We played the perfect game with everyone showing up from the first drop of the puck right to the end of the game.

I think we could have beaten them by even more. They got off the hook. All the guys did their job, there was no letting up and no flaws.

It was probably our best game of the season so far and the boys were really pumped up after it.

We had a real blast in the dressing room afterwards and it feels good to be winning like this.

But there is no room for complacency in this league and we face them again tomorrow night.

Good team

I’ve heard their coach took away their day off because they lost to us and Nottingham but I don’t know why he was getting mad because we are a good team.

We want to beat them again so we can drive home the fact that we deserve to be up at the top of the table. We’re the real deal.

I really believe that they played as hard as they could last week. It was a tight game and a tough one and we beat them and deserved our success.

They might try to step it up a little bit but they are in our barn and we don’t like to lose at home.

Scott Basiuk is back in Altrincham for the first time since joining Sheffield and I’m sure the fans will give him a good reception.

He was captain here for two years and he did a good job at that.

Not many of the guys here played with him last season.

I did and last week every time I could run at him I did it. One time he put his hands up and nearly broke my nose so I wasn’t too happy about that. So look for me to be finishing my checks on him big time.

First up this weekend is Newcastle tonight. Whenever they play on the road they are like little kittens but whenever you play them up in Newcastle they come out like bunch of tigers. They change their demeanour when they are at home.

It will be a rough game but they also have a few hotheads like Andre Payette and Derek Campbell. They are going to come out and try and put us off our game but Tony (Hand – player-coach) keeps us all level-headed  and if you don’t let them get to you then that kind of game is ineffective.

If something gets out of hand he’ll send me or Kyle Bruce out to do our jobs.

Core training

THE boys all went down to the physio at Worsley this week and did our first core training day.

It makes the core of your body – back, waist, hips and shoulders – stronger and this kind of training shows the team is taking a leap in the right direction.

Everyone was up for it but a lot of them had a hard time because they have never done it before but in three or four weeks time it should be a lot easier.

It’s fun seeing Tony in action because he’s 41 years old and he’s never done any of this stuff. That kind of training didn’t exist back in the 80s!
