Phoenix look set for a big switch on

PHOENIX fans can look forward to wall-to-wall action replays when the new season faces off next month.

Club owner, Neil Morris will install 18 plasma screens around the Altrincham Ice Dome.

The massive 50-inch sets will show the game's highlights, instant replays and live action.

"We will have the only ice rink with these facilities in the whole of Britain, it is unique to Manchester," said Andy Costigan, Phoenix general manager.

Last season the team played in the unfinished arena which took its toll in the team's performance.

"This time around it will be a different saga with a brand new arena and lots of in-house facilities for the players.

"I hope that the new environment will improve their performance, we want to keep them as comfortable as possible.

"The new rink will also give more excitement for the paying public who certainly will get value for their money."

Target

The screens are offering the audience a new fantastic experience and the arena at Oakfield Road will have a capacity of 2,500 spectators.

"The target is to get a crowd of 2,000 people on average for each game.

"I want the home games to be a real family night out.

"The aim is to get the arena up to scratch when Phoenix take on Basingstoke on September 9, the first league game of the season.

"But there are still 700 seats left to be installed and the contractors are not expected to have finished the job in time for a series of friendlies the week before.

"We are taking the club to the next level now that we are settled in our new building. "This is a very exciting time for us heading into next season and we are looking to challenge for the silverware in every competition," said Costigan.

The players arrive on August 24 at their new HQ ready for their first match - a friendly at Sheffield on September 1.
