Sean Comiskey won his first Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit title by the narrowest of margins in the De Frece Trophy at Blackpool North Shore, writes David Birtill.

The Gathurst two handicapper birdied the penultimate hole to prevail by a shot from Lancashire player Richie Blundell.

That helped him to three-under-par 68 and atoned for a disappointing finish to his first round when he dropped five strokes on his way to a 71.

Blundell,  who was defending his title, returned 71 and 69 to lift himself into third place in the Order of Merit, 150 points adrift of his county team-mate John Carroll.

Stephen Lord retained his North West Manchester GA Matchplay Championship at Stand, beating host club player Chris Harding 4&3. But his son Nick failed to make it a family double for Rochdale, losing the Secretary’s Junior Challenge to Swinton Park’s  Ryan McBerry.

Reddish Vale-attached Adam Stott enjoyed his best finish on the EuroPro Tour, a three-way tie for second place in the ABC Solutions UK Championship at Wychwood Park.

David Smith had to settle for a share of the spoils in the Werneth Pro-am with Lee Park’s Chris Crowder on four-under-par 64, the Swinton Park assistant rueing a couple of late lapses.

Shrigley quartet Charles Herbert, Brian Hopkins, Alan Pengally and Andy Stubbens racked up an impressive 89 points to win the Maxitour Wilson Masters Am-am at Tytherington. Lymm plus- two player Luke Burrows eagled three of the par five holes.

Former Swinton Park secretary Stuart King won his 60-64 age group in the Northern Counties Seniors’ Championship at Silloth-on-Solway with rounds of 80 and 71.
