Ruth uses appliance of science

Ruth Turner tests blood samples by day at Macclesfield Hospital and spends her spare time playing golf at nearby Tytherington.

She certainly came up with the right formula with partner Kim Mortimer to win their club qualifier in the MEN Media Golf Club Challenge.

The bio medical scientist works in the pathology unit and finds golf a good antidote to work. "It’s a great way of relaxing although it’s not always easy to find the time because of work," said the 18-handicapper.

The pair scored 47 points in the betterball event to beat Penny Clark and Zoe Ridgway on a card play off and now go forward to the finals day at Romiley on Sunday, June 6.

So too do Eric Malkin and Alan Parsons who triumphed in the men’s event at Tytherington where both players’ scores count on every hole.

Both parred the last hole to gain a two-point advantage over Paul Feltham and David Allmand-Smith with 56 points. "We were thrown together as a team after both our partners dropped out the week before," explained Eric.
