Werneth Golf Club is just embarking on its second century after a hugely successful centenary year in 2009.
The club hosted a centenary Pro-Am and such was the support from members and local golfers that it turned out to be the largest event on the PGA North region programme in the year.
A special bonus was offered if the professionals broke the course record of 63 set 20 years ago by Steve Oldham, and Bridlington's Alex Belt obliged with a seven-under 61 that saw him hit eight birdies including five in a row from the eighth.
That mark now equals the amateur record, held by current club member Lee Rowbotham.
Werneth, nestled away on the beautiful garden suburb estate just outside Oldham, has always been known as a friendly and welcoming club and in the last couple of seasons has been praised for the high standards of its small greens.
Five par threes always make hitting greens in regulation a must to make a good score.
