Visitors might have to pinch themselves to realise they are tucked away in a hideaway of such outstanding quality in the leafy suburbs of Stockport.
The Manchester-London railway line runs parallel to two demanding par fours that herald the start of the back nine and if your scorecard is intact at the turn beware the risk of your round hitting the buffers.
The 443-yard par four 11th is the toughest hole on the card with a green perched on a ledge adding a further degree of difficulty.
However, there is plenty of incentive to put together a good score on this undulating woodland parkland track. For instance, a quartet of par threes are part of the varied attraction with the uphill 7th particularly tricky, especially after negotiating the magnificent downhill long par five on the previous hole.
Inevitably, the game is a roller-coaster in terms of scoring for most players and Bramall Park is certainly an enjoyable ride out.
The largest teeing area is the first hole so more has been made of this feature after it was remodelled thanks to the generosity of the ladies section.
There is also a new professional’s shop, a new home then for Mike Proffitt who has been at Bramall Park since 1991. He has a new assistant in Liam Burgess after his move from Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Bramall Park is an ideal destination for societies and corporate groups with a choice of menu in the dining room equal to the highest standard of facilities on offer out on the course.
No wonder this traditional set up – the current course was originally designed by Dr Alistair MacKenzie in 1921 - has an established reputation among golfers across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
