WHEN push comes to shove Graham Maly will do anything to raise money for a good cause.

And when he heard about the Wishes 4 Kids charity he decided not only to support it but aim for a world record.

Maly, the PGA North Region secretary who lives in Salford, will attempt to achieve the most push-ups on his fingertips in one minute at Marriott Worsley Park on May 25.

He said: "The charity has been created to grant a wish for youngsters who are terminally ill or have experienced life-changing physical or emotional traumas or major abuse.

"It has already granted hundreds of wishes for local children and although they do not have a magical cure for the suffering they can bring a short period of respite."

Fitness fanatic Maly, who once contemplated joining the Royal Marines, keeps himself in shape for golf by working out four or five times a week.

"I want to try to reach a personal goal and help the charity at the same time," explained the 34-year-old former tour professional.

"The record push-ups in one hour stands at 3,416 and to date I have managed 2,600 but I hurt my shoulder during training and have since focused on the one minute challenge.

There is no official target but I understand 113 has been clocked.

"I recently did 118 but my mark is between 130 and 140 which I think is realistic. My training consists of aerobics and heavy weights but I also try to do at least 1,000 push-ups a day.
