So far only 51 out of a total of 142 have answered an appeal for information.
And the list does not include Manchester Golf Club which was instrumental in establishing the Lancashire Union and provided its first chairman and secretary.
MEN golf correspondent David Birtill, who is writing the book, said: “The response has been disappointing and bewildering.
"The clubs are not only passing up a chance to appear in the book but a glorious opportunity to promote themselves at no cost.
"We will publish the information already processed but I strongly urge all those who have not bothered to reply to do so by the end of March 2009 because after then it will be too late and they will not get a mention."
The book traces the history of the union since it was founded at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, in 1910.
Each club has been asked to provide a 150-200 word history.
