ACRE Gate Golf Club youngster Andy Parrington helped boost the funds for the Captain’s chosen charity of the Friends of Delamere School, Flixton.
Andy was sponsored to play four rounds of golf, in a single day, at his club.
He completed his marathon 72 holes with the grateful support of Lady Captain, Pauline Longden, and husband Allan, together with junior member, Michael Micklehem.
Andy’s parents also helped with caddy duties and words of encouragement during his Golf Marathon that raised more than £250 for a very deserving cause.
Ashton-on-Mersey’s men played for John Bacon’s Prize and in a rash of good scoring Paul Thornton was first past the post with a neat 64 from Neil Greenhalgh (65) and Bob Smith (66).
Mersey’s ladies played for Mrs Young’s Prize and it was taken by G Jenner with 37 points ahead of Lynda Brenner 36 and J Hall 35.
Over at Sale, Moira Forster was again in knock-out final action after losing narrowly in the ladies singles knock-out o to Sue Barrett.
Forster partnered Jane Ashcroft in the Ladies Doubles Foursomes but again they lost out to last year’s beaten finalists Jill McBurney and Ann Lowis.
Midweek medal play for Sale’s men saw Ian Russell first past the post with 66 from Dale Wallace (69).
Sale’s men have been completing their knock-out finals and in the President’s Prize M Gomnan beat M Griffiths 2-1 and it was the same scoreline in the Club Championship in favour of Mo Rawthore from Steve Price.
In the junior knock-out final GM Junior Open winner Sam Price came out on top by 2/1 over M Marshall.
The Mixed Foursome final again saw the youngsters in charge with R Foley and Katie Rawthore beating Captain John Stubbs and Lady Captain Carol Broadbent 4/3.
Dunham Forest’s men played in the Maurice Goldston Series and leading in with 40 points was R Marks ahead of M Clyne (38) and D Solomon (37).
The Robert Wax Trophy, now in its second year, has found what seems to be a permanent home at Dunham Forest where Robert Wax so enjoyed his golf.
With a full Manchester Alliance field of 152 players it was no surprise that Ellesmere pro Martyn Hamer had a nervous wait in the clubhouse after carding an individual score of 43 points and a score of 45 points with his amateur partner Steve Hindle.
The scores proved to be good enough to take both the individual Professional Prize and the Pro-Am prize on card play-offs.
Second place went to Cheadle professional Anthony Miller, playing with his amateur partner Nick Fletcher from Lymm, with the Withington pairing of Steve Marr and Kevan Hawkins taking third place.
