YOUNGSTERS are being encouraged to get in the swing this bank holiday by Trafford Community Leisure Trust.
A free fun golf day is being held for children, aged between five and 15 years old from across Trafford, at Altrincham golf course on August 25, from 12noon to 4pm.
The course will be providing activities throughout the day for children who play golf or want to give it a try for the first time. There will be free tuition from PGA professionals, competitions and a mini Ryder Cup, with prizes to be won.
Trafford Community Leisure Trust, who manages Altrincham golf course and William Wroe golf course, based in Flixton, in partnership with the Strokeplay Driving Range, will be giving away four golf scholarships for both courses, which will include free unlimited golf and regular free tuition from the golf professionals.
Scott Partington, resident professional and manager, said: "Our aim is to open up the golf course to the young people so they can experience how enjoyable and fun the game can be, and this goes for those who have never played before to those who are competent golfers.
"We want all the family to come along and get involved, there will be entertainment, food and drink available at the Old Hall and a safe, fun environment for the youngsters to get involved in a sport that is keeping them active.
"All those that take part will get a free gift and we will be holding a free prize draw for everyone that comes down."
The golf course will provide all the equipment on the day.
Children wishing to take part in the Ryder Cup should pre-register by calling 0161 928 0761, otherwise families can just turn up on the day.
Partington added: "This is the first Junior open day we’ve held, it’s important that we host events like these so we can get more children involved in the sport.
"Most golfers start at local pay-and-play courses like Altrincham and William Wroe and I strongly believe we have some great facilities here to be enjoyed and taken advantage of by the children in Trafford."
