JAMIE Howarth knew exactly where to hit his shots when he set off in his first Open today.

The Stockport-based player, and his fellow professional brother and caddie Scott, have done their homework on the famous links.

"We've been here every day since the weekend," said Jamie.

Paul Waring, a former English amateur champion who was in the same Cheshire squad as Howarth and Horsey, was less nervous than a year ago at Carnoustie.

He turned professional soon after and nearly a full season on the European Tour has prepared him well for this week's challenge.

Birchwood-attached Phil Archer also looked at ease with the big crowds in his first Open.
