He will travel the world to set up new brand agreements and consultancy projects.
Butler, who was succeeded as North Region secretary by Graham Maly last month, said: "It's a commercial role because I will be responsible for ensuring the PGA brand is being used correctly and generally maintaining good relationships."
The 33-year-old joined the PGA nine years ago as a tournament controller at the Bolton-based PGA North Region.
Maly has wasted no time in settling in as regional secretary and has been busy putting together an expansive tournament and pro-am schedule.
"We are also endeavouring to improve the image of our events by introducing bigger leader boards and marquees," he said.
CHORLEY'S Andrew Palmer shot a second round 69 to claim fifth place out of a 78-strong field in the British Universities' Sports Association regional qualifier at Wallasey.
Palmer, from Central Lancashire University, finished three strokes behind the winner Sam Riddell.
