GOLF David Horsey edged into the third round of the British Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes after a titanic battle which ended on the third extra hole.

The 22-year-old Styal member was two ahead after 13 holes but allowed England team-mate John Parry to hit back and draw level.

Horsey then birdied the 16th only to give away the next hole before clinching the match in extra time.

Horsey's Cheshire team-mate Paul Waring and Chorley's Sam Stuart both fell at the first hurdle.

Dunscar's Gareth Hastie retained his Bolton Championship title when he beat Dave Southern, from Westhoughton.
