Preview: Watford v Wigan Athletic

WIGAN manager Paul Jewell has made a tough choice ahead of his team's clash with Watford at Vicarage Road.

He has had to decide whether to recall skipper Jason de Vos from suspension, even though Matt Jackson turned in a top performance last week in the absence of the big Canadian at centre half.

Jewell said: "I've already decided who will play but the players don't know yet.

"It's going to be difficult telling whoever is left out, but that's my job and its something I enjoy.

"It means I've got selection problems of a nice nature."

Meanwhile, chairman Dave Whelan says Latics are ready to give the play-offs "one hell of a go."

Whelan said: "We know we're the underdogs but that suits us.

"Underdogs are not looked at kindly and I am sure a lot of people wouldn't like it if Wigan Athletic did reach the Premiership.

"This is water off a duck's back as far as I am concerned. We're going to give it one hell of a go - it's wide open and it's up to us to take one of the four spots."

Alan Mahon and Steve McMillan are back from injury and in the squad.

Jewell has dismissed concerns over Wigan's disciplinary record and wants his players to be even tougher.

Despite nine sendings-off, Jewell said: "We are not a dirty team. If anything I wish we were a bit nastier. I think many of our red cards have been unfortunate, but we don't want us to start thinking the whole world is against us."

Gary Teale will resume training next week after breaking his collar bone at Stoke.
